Another method some recommend for the preparation of household solutions is
the pinch and scoop, using the hand only. A pinch of salt taken between the
thumb and two fingers and a four-finger scoop of sugar are added to one-half
litre (1 pint) of water. Factors such as the size of the grains, the amount of
dampness present, individual dexterity, and different cultural uses of the
fingers must be taken into account when promoting this method.
